Mylar bags are available in two main styles: flat and stand-up, and are typically constructed with two or three layers of material. Common features include zipper closures and the use of metalized materials for durability and barrier protection. While most Mylar bags are fully metalized and have a silver-colored opaque appearance on both sides, some designs optionally incorporate a transparent window or side to enhance product visibility. These clear elements are added for aesthetic or functional purposes and are not standard across all Mylar bags.

It is is leak-free, smell-free, and aroma-proof with medium or high barrier properties. They can be used for shelf-stable products between 12-18 months.
